I want to be honest about why I built this. Every time I walk alone, even somewhere familiar, there's a small knot in my stomach. When someone walks past me, especially at night, I catch myself running through worst-case scenarios before I can stop it. I know I'm not the only one who does this. If you've ever quietly moved your keys between your fingers or crossed the street for no real reason, you know exactly what I mean.

For years, my routine was the same: share my live location with my husband and have him on the phone until I'm home. It helps, but it only ever covers one person. If he doesn't see the notification in time, or his phone is on silent, or he's driving, there's no backup. I kept thinking, why does it have to be just one person? So I built Spher, a free safety app that notifies your whole circle at once, not just one.

Here's what it actually does:

\- SOS in one tap. Your alert goes out to everyone you've picked ahead of time, with your live location, not just a single contact.

\- Fall detection on your phone and on Apple Watch (pulse spike detection too). If you take a hard fall and don't respond within 30 seconds, it automatically alerts your circle. No need to even touch your phone.

\- Even something as small as dropping your phone can trigger a check-in: the app asks if you're okay, and if you don't answer in 30 seconds, your circle gets notified.

\- Audio recording during an alert, sent straight to your circle, so there's a record of what happened.

\- Geofencing, so the people you trust get a heads-up when you arrive or leave somewhere.

\- A safety map where you (and other women nearby) can flag badly lit streets or unsafe spots. 

Privacy is the part I actually care most about. Nothing is public by default. Your location, alerts, and posts only ever go to the people you specifically add. No public profile, no strangers browsing your activity. We do not want to sell safety gadgets, we want to use what you already have.

There's also a community side I didn't originally plan for: you can comment anonymously, join or start groups, chat privately, and read articles from women who've been there. Turns out the anxiety isn't just about the walk home, it's nice to know other people get it too. We use AI here to make sure that the community isn't toxic. 

(For the people who always ask: it's not exclusively for women to use, but every safety feature was designed around what women told me they actually needed, which is why it's built the way it is. Being a man and adding your sister, mother, or someone else is totally fine)
