Need advice, Can repeated mediation requests be used to delay a divorce case?
I’m going through a contested divorce case. We have already had four mediation sessions. My husband lives abroad and attended only the first two via phone. (Neither he nor his lawyer attended the last two).
Today was the fourth mediation. Apparently his lawyer has again requested another mediation, saying that my husband might come to India (something they have been saying for about a year) and that there could be a possibility of settlement
My lawyer agreed to this without consulting me, and the mediator has now scheduled the next mediation about 1½ mos later(which seems long for a fifth mediation)
Honestly, I don't believe my husband has any genuine intention of settling. During counselling, he even said things to me that made me feel he was willing to keep delaying the divorce even if it takes years
I’m not against a genuine settlement, but we’ve already had four mediation sessions without reaching one, and now I’m being asked to wait another 1½ months.( I've already wasted years on this marriage and this divorce)
Would it be wiser for me to attend this next mediation, or should I ask my lawyer to request that the matter proceed before the court instead? I’d appreciate any advice. Thank you
