I’ve noticed that some roguelites are genuinely really difficult. For example,

Mechanically challenging: *Spelunky 2*.

It demands precise movement, jumping, throwing, and quick reactions. The traps often trigger chain reactions, so a single mistake can end the run. It’s genuinely very difficult.

Strategically challenging: *Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup* (*DCSS*).

It emphasizes class builds, resource management, route planning, and risk assessment. With permadeath, every decision matters—especially when attempting a 15-rune victory.

Since so few developers are making accessible roguelites, I’ll do it. I want to create a game with excellent combat feel that welcomes newcomers to the genre and lets them quickly experience the appeal of randomized builds. So, building on what *Hades* does well, I plan to make a truly satisfying, action-packed roguelite.

Is high difficulty necessary for a roguelite?Should roguelites focus more on buildcrafting or mechanical skill?
