Mason Greenwood

Our Fenerbahçe, which dominated the game from start to finish against Eyüpspor, left the field with a historic 8-0 victory, treating our fans to an unforgettable soccer spectacle. Vedat Muriqi, who shone with 4 goals in our team’s resounding victory, Mason Greenwood, who found the back of the net twice, and Matteo Guendouzi, who contributed one goal to the score, reflected on the historic win and their performance following the match.

Mason Greenwood: I’m happy with the team’s performance

Speaking after the 8-0 victory, Mason Greenwood expressed his satisfaction with the team’s effort and said they would address their shortcomings during the international break before continuing on their path.

Greenwood said, “We played a good game. The team showed great fight and discipline. We managed to score 8 goals. It’s fantastic for us, but it could have been even more. I’m happy with the team’s overall performance.

We’ve played many great games this season, but especially in some away matches, luck wasn’t on our side—we had some bad breaks. But I think luck was completely on our side today. That’s why we managed to score 8 goals. Now we have an international break ahead of us. During this time, we’ll focus on the areas we need to improve; we’ll recover and get back on track when the league resumes.

“During halftime, we talked about the need to score more goals. Because we always need to score goals. The more we put this into practice, the more natural it becomes for us. We have a lot of matches ahead of us. We need to win a lot of them. In the meantime, we’ll recover as best we can. We’ll keep up our training and do what our coach asks of us,”

Vedat Muriqi

Vedat Muriqi: It was an incredibly positive reaction

Speaking after the historic 8-0 victory, Vedat Muriqi noted that the team had shown a strong reaction and said they were heading into the international break in high spirits. Our player also highlighted the intense match schedule, noting that the players had struggled during this period.

Regarding the match, Vedat Muriqi said, “I’m very happy. We needed to show a reaction. Since the beginning of the week, everyone in our training sessions agreed that we needed to start this match with a lot of pressure. That’s exactly what happened. We took the lead from a penalty in the very first minutes. Then came the goals one after another… We had to react, and it was an incredible reaction. A historic 8-0 score… We’re happy and proud. Now we have the international break. I think we’ve gone into the international break in the best possible way. After the international break, we’ll face a busy match schedule. We want to get good results from there as well and, God willing, take the top spot by the winter break.”

As for the best goal, Vedat explained, “Matteo scored a beautiful goal with a great shot on a one-on-one. Irfan Can scored, and my third goal was also beautiful. I couldn’t decide which one to pick. I’m torn between Matteo and Irfan. What mattered was that we showed a strong reaction and won. We’re happy.”

Drawing attention to the intense match schedule, our player noted that European, league, cup, and national team matches create a challenging process for players, stating, “On one hand, it’s a good thing. We’ll have completed it with two international breaks in between. Normally, we had three. After such an intense match schedule, during the national team break—I don’t know anymore… We don’t have much say in these matters, so we can’t really get involved, but as players, no matter who you ask, we’d all like to see some adjustments made. Because big clubs like Fenerbahçe go through a very intense match schedule, whether it’s in Europe, the cup, or the league. When you add national team duty every three days on top of that, it becomes a difficult process. “Player health is also important here. We don’t have the resources to handle it. It didn’t happen this year, but hopefully they’ll make an adjustment next year. Because as players, we’re really struggling,”

Matteo Guendouzi

Matteo Guendouzi: We Have the Potential to Do Even Better

Noting that they capitalized well on the gaps left by the opponent’s defense, our player said that they showed a strong reaction as a team and that, following the 8-0 victory, they want to continue on their path with even greater strength.

Assessing the match, Matteo Guendouzi said, “In my opinion, it was a very important game. We needed to show a strong response. The results we’ve had recently haven’t satisfied us or the fans. So, from our perspective, it was a game where we needed to make a big statement. We had to demonstrate that response. We needed to play well. In that sense, I think we were more than eager. We wanted to score as many goals as we could to demonstrate that reaction. Of course, I think we can do even better. We are truly a high-quality, good, and strong team. We have the capacity to do even better. We intend to continue in the same vein after the international break.”

Guendouzi, noting that they had analyzed their opponent well, said, “In the videos we watched, we saw that the opponent left a lot of space at the back. We worked hard on this during training. We focused especially on runs behind the defense. As a result, with the runs we made behind the defense today, we created a lot of danger in front of the opponent’s goal. We can perform even better than we did today. “We showed a good response today. But I believe we can perform even better in the matches we have left to play. I think we can elevate our individual performances to an even higher level. The results we’ve had recently have upset us and left us disappointed. This was an important opportunity to turn that around into something positive. “We intend to move forward much stronger with this result,”

Finally, the French soccer player, who was named Man of the Match and scored the best goal, concluded by saying, “To answer the ‘Man of the Match’ question, I’d say: the team. In my opinion, we did a great job collectively. I could mention Vedat because he scored so many goals. We put in a good performance. As a team, we tried to give our best. As for the best goal, it was the one I scored,”

İsmail Kartal

Our Head Coach, İsmail Kartal, spoke to the broadcaster following our 8-0 victory over Eyüpspor.

Congratulating the players and dedicating this lopsided victory to our fans, İsmail Kartal said, “Today, we just won a game. I had already hinted at this in the interview we gave before the match. We have excellent communication with the players. We are improving day by day, both physically and in terms of our approach to the game. We didn’t expect to win by such a wide margin, but we did expect to win the match. We had prepared well since the beginning of the week. There was pressure on us—and on our players—from not having won our last two league matches. We’re even happier than our fans because we were able to shake off that pressure by playing so well and winning by such a wide margin, making our fans happy.

I congratulate my players. We prepared well. In return for our good preparation, they responded beautifully. They gave a great performance on the field. We secured a very convincing victory. This has boosted our morale. We’re heading into the international break in high spirits. We dedicate this victory to the great Fenerbahçe fans.

We take the field to win every match, everywhere. A goal can come in the very first minute. We fought to score until the 90th minute. After the goals we scored, there were missed opportunities with Lukaku, Mason, and Oğuz.

Our players did more than their very best. We were prepared for this. We prepared together. Hopefully, we’ll continue to build on this style of play throughout the entire league and keep improving until the end of the season.

Let’s not call it a reaction. Up until now, the shots we took were hitting the post or just missing. This and that was happening. Today, thank God, the shots we took went in. We’re happy too,”
