Should I be concerned about my fertility as a 22yo male.
High LH and FSH but normal testosterone. Should I be worried about fertility?
Hi, I’m a 22yo male and recently had some blood work tests done. I have one healthy descended testicle and one undescended testicle that was never corrected.
My results were:
- Total testosterone: 7.27 ng/mL (727 ng/dL) Lab range: 2.49–8.36 ng/mL
- Free testosterone: 13.95 ng/dL (139.5 pg/mL) Lab range: 5.7–17.83 ng/dL
- LH: 30.3 mIU/mL Lab range: 1.7–8.6
- FSH: 16.8 mIU/mL Lab range: 1.5–12.4
The testosterone and free testosterone are within range, but my LH and FSH are both quite high.
I’m mainly worried about what this means for my fertility. Does having high LH and FSH despite normal testosterone suggest that my descended testicle is having to work harder to maintain normal testosterone?
Could I still have normal sperm production and be able to conceive naturally, or does this hormone pattern suggest that sperm production may be impaired?
Would a semen analysis be the best next step?
I’d especially appreciate answers from doctors, urologists, endocrinologists, or anyone who has dealt with a similar situation. Thanks.
