Why are sections of Indian left so sympathetic to Islamic identity politics though it just another mythical religion like Hinduism?

I understand Muslims are in minority in India and are at the receiving end of the Hindutva hate campaign.

Is it because they see Muslims as victims in India and therefore identify with their plight.

I find Islam to be a very dangerous political theology. Let us not forget what muslim identity politics and separatism did in 1947 in India and what happens in Muslim majority States.

Sure Hindutva is a big problem but I don't find any logic in building common cause with islamic identity politics like supporting Burqa and other medieval misogynist shit as Personal choice.
