Poetry or thoughts for grief for time lost; a now sober mother

Grief

My mother is now sober and over a year into recovery. I helped her into rehab, along with my siblings. She’s now sober, leading AA meetings, processing through therapy, she’s also survived cancer this year too. It’s been a lot. I’m proud of her but I’m also very deeply sad for our time lost.

I’ve been tumultuously processing the grief feeling of this. I think I would like some poetry or thoughts about this if anyone able to share.

My mum was almost if not completely a stranger or often a terrible person to me for decades and now … I’m reminded each time I’m with her of the mother I had when I was a younger child, rather than the hard times that followed. She’s kind, soft, listens, cares. Even hugs properly.

And that makes me sad, in a way I can’t articulate or understand properly yet. I’m scared time will run out, now and I won’t have much time left with her. I’m scared it won’t last (a little) though she’s incredibly determined. I don’t think she will slip, god I hope she won’t.

Does this even make sense?
