need help with birth control

so, i got prescribed birth control a month back and have been waiting for my period to start. i work evenings and have school in the daytime so my plan was to take the pill at 6am every day because that’s a time that i know i will be at home and not busy.

my period started at about 5pm today and im supposed to start taking my medicine on the first day of my period, but i’m not sure if i should because it’s going to interfere with my plan of taking it at 6am every day, because im super prone to forgetting my medicine especially if i’m out/busy (which i usually am in the evenings). on the other hand, i don’t want to mess up the effectiveness of the medicine by not taking it on the first day and risk it not working.

does anyone have any advice for a situation like this? thank you.
