Samsung 870 EVO SSD intermittently not detected: "A device which does not exist was specified," only works after overnight sleep
Drive: Samsung SSD 870 EVO 250GB (firmware SVT02B6Q), secondary drive on a Windows PC
The problem:
- The SSD intermittently doesn't show up in File Explorer.
- When this happens, Disk Management shows "A device which does not exist was specified" for this drive.
- Booting takes a very long time when this happens.
- Nothing I try fixes it, but after the PC wakes from sleep in the morning, the drive starts working again.
- The AC is on all night, so the room (and PC) is cold by morning.
- Once it's working, it works fine. I installed Black Myth: Wukong on it and played with no problems.
- But if I shut the PC down and turn it back on a few minutes later, the drive disappears again.
What I've ruled out:
- Cable: tested the same cable with other SSDs, and they work fine.
- SATA port: also works fine with other drives.
- Fast Startup: disabled.
CrystalDiskInfo taken while the drive was working:
- Health: Good (96%)
- Power On Hours: 5120 | Power On Count: 2512
- Host Writes: 17,756 GB
- Temperature: 40°C (max recorded ~51°C)
- Reallocated sectors, program/erase fails, uncorrectable errors, ECC errors, CRC errors: all 0
- POR Recovery Count (unexpected power loss): 145
Has anyone seen this before? Any ideas appreciated.
