What's your morning and evening routine?

General chat

My wife and I both work. 2 kids, one in nursery and one in reception.

Maybe its just because reception has started but it feels like there isn't enough time to get everyone ready, fed and out without panic and rushing. Breakfast is usually fruit with either porridge or eggs and toast. The walk or bike ride to school is 20min so we end up driving when we don't have enough time - we much orefer the healthy walk. 5 year old needs a tactical poo every morning and delivers without fail - thats 10min well spent.

My concerns with all this is that we're constantly pressuring the 5 year old who has no concept of time or being late or needing to eat. Feels an awful way to start the day with your parents rushing everything and pressuring you and doesn't make for a good relationship. There's no time to have meaningful moments to talk about the day or anything on their mind.

Evenings seem impossible too. If you have an after school club that ends by 6pm, you get home at 6.30, eat by 7.30 , bath and bed by 8. Hardly any time for reading. Even then, we are constantly telling 5 year old to eat so they aren't waking at 3am hungry for a banana. So it feels like we're on track to cause meal time trauma!

Little time to bond and talk except on weekends.

Somewhere in your day you have to prepare meals and tidy and do laundry and prepare clothes and leave time for reading, homework etc.

We are trying to prepare better with food prep, clothes prepared for the week, etc.

What do you do and how do you manage? Any tips to offer?
