Quick Question about Japanese Streams

It's nothing too crazy. I just recently found out a artist I really like does live streams on youtube every now and again. Today I managed to catch one and (while a bit embarrassing) I really did wanna do my best to interact and show support. But it did feel a tad awkward being what felt like one of the few people typing in English. I got a bit worried I was... intruding in a sense. Is there any kind of social norms or such I should know of? Also is it weird to use a translator to send a message? Obviously I wont hear the response but I really do just wanna say thanks for the content.
