Permadeath and road merging

Hello ! I finished my first path with Cai and ending act 2 - permadeath + difficult, that I found very difficult compared to Act 1 ! Unfortunately, four units died during the final battle. Will they return in act 3 from the other path if I recruit them ? (Like Mu, I really like this one !)

Thanks
