Router buying help

Hi all,

Cutting a very long story short, to compliment my laser cutting and engraving products. I am starting to make some jewellery and wooden gift boxes, a router seems to be the natural umm route.

Bring the dofus I am, despite being classed as a third world country by my bank, I almost went straight in and bought the trend tr14 and wrt bench but it is now it looks as if a smaller 1/4 inch routers would be better like the MAkita RT0702CX4.

I could really do with some advice on what I should buy, I know it is the scariest weapon in woodworking arsenal and there will be a huge learning curve etc, I'm going to start on 6 and 9mm mdf before moving on to thicker mdf and real wood.
