How do I not be bad?

Just installed today on Xbox and long story short, I am hot garbage:D
Any tips, setting changes or gameplay elements I should be aware of? At the moment I’m just trying to get a feel for the game in deathmatch but I am getting beamed around corners before I even know what’s happening haha
Any advice would be appreciated:)
