Time doesn't stand still

Short

I am not a front desk person, but I post this out of empathy for the staff dealing with this.

Two men in front of me were obviously traveling together but required both front desk staff for separate reservations. They provided their names and offered their IDs. After looking for a few minutes, neither man had reservations in the system.

Man1: Oh, I'm sure we're in there. We work for xxx company and will be here for three nights.

Front Desk staff continue searching for several more minutes. Nothing can be found.

FrontDesk1: I'm so sorry sir. We have checked all over and you have nothing in the system. Are you sure it isn't at our sister property just down the street?

Man1: No, it was a prepaid reservation here. We were supposed to check in yesterday, but we're running late.

The look on the Front Desk person's face showed pain and anger.

FrontDesk1: Sir, if you don't check in as scheduled, you are considered a no-show.

Man1: That's okay. Just renew it and put it on the same card.

Of course, the card was declined.

At that point, with a strained smile, the Front Desk person actually told the two men to go stand in the corner until she had time to deal with them.
