How is West 30th St between 8th & 9th Ave for living?

I’m looking at an apartment on W 30th between 8th and 9th Ave and would love to hear from people who have lived in this area/been in the area.

I’ve seen a lot of older posts saying the area immediately around Penn Station can feel sketchy/grimy, especially around 9th Ave, but I’ve also seen people say that the blocks around 8th Ave are pretty fine and that the area has improved a lot.

For anyone familiar with the area:
- How do you feel about W 30th specifically between 8th & 9th?
- Does it feel reasonably comfortable walking home alone at night?
- How is it on weekends / later at night when MSG has events?
- Is the main issue safety, or is it more that the area is just noisy/busy/grimy?

Penn Station proximity seems like a huge plus for transportation so I’m trying to figure out whether the location is actually a reasonable tradeoff.
