Brother FS60X Extra Tough – worth it for quilting/bags and bulky seams?

Suggest Machine

Hi! I’m looking at upgrading my current

Janome DC2050 and have been considering the Brother FS60X Extra Tough.

I sew quite a lot and make bags, quilted projects, toys and other random things, so I regularly end up sewing through batting, multiple layers of cotton/canvas and bulky folded seams. I also occasionally sew denim.

My biggest frustrations with my current machine are the low presser-foot clearance and struggling to get bulky projects underneath it. I’d also really like a walking foot for quilting.

I looked at higher-end Janome/Juki/Pfaff machines, but I’m not sure I can justify spending $1,000–$1,500+ right now. The FS60X is much more within my budget.

For anyone who owns one: how does it actually cope with bulky seams and multiple layers? Is the presser-foot clearance decent? Have you quilted or made bags with it? And has it held up well with regular use?

I’d especially love to hear from anyone who upgraded to it from a similar mid-range Janome and whether it actually felt like an upgrade rather than just a different machine in the same category.
