Help with aerophagia
Hey y’all! Looking for help with consistent aerophagia.
I’m a 47-year-old who was given the ResMed 11 due to mild sleep apnea. I’m also on Wegovy and very slowly losing weight.
CPAP settings were, to my best recollection, 5–14, with no EPR. My first mask was a nasal pillow style mask. Immediately I found that my mouth would fall open at night and air would escape out through my mouth. My CPAP supply folks changed me to a Philips DreamWear full-face mask.
After wearing that mask for a couple weeks I started to get intense aerophagia. I’d be awake at 2am and nauseous. I thought it was the GLP-1 so I came off that medicine for several weeks and concluded it was definitely aerophagia from the CPAP.
At this point I started wearing a chin strap and/or mouth tape. It helped at first, but the aerophagia returned. I also bought a wedge pillow to sleep elevated.
I started messing with my pressure and turned on full EPR. I set my pressure to 4–7, with no change. I called my sleep clinic and spoke with a provider who recommended going down to 4 in CPAP mode. That hasn’t helped either. I’ve also tried using a V-COM at 4 and 5. At the lower pressure I’m still struggling with aerophagia, but it’s not intense.
I’m struggling here. Any recommendations?
