Follow up on a dual-class campaign idea
yesterday I posted about a concept I had for a dual-class campaign where each player selected an in-universe "class" comprised of a pair of classes using the old dual-class rules. Here's the thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/Pathfinder2e/comments/1wn0qrr/martial_caster_dual_class_combinations/
Here are my results after some of pondering and build testing:
Agent-Apothecary (Rogue/Alchemist)
Scout-Sympathist (Ranger/Animist)
Slayer-Relictor (Thaumaturge/Cleric)
Cantor-Fusilier (Gunslinger/Bard)
Vanguard-Sibyl (Fighter/Oracle)
Knight-Reclaimant (Guardian/Druid)
Seeker-Occultist (Investigator/Witch)
Magister-Luminary (Runekeeper/Wizard)
Conjurer-Ardent(Monk/Summoner)
Evoker-Aspirant (Swashbuckler/Sorcerer)
Seer-Commandant (Psychic/Commander)
Templar-Revenant (Necromancer/Champion)
I ended up going for a smaller scope where I tried to use each base class just once. That's still 12 "classes" to choose from for players, and covers a massive amount of character building options within each one. I tried to pair them based a mix of interesting flavor concept, interesting mechanical concept, but not too much vertical synergy. Some choices were just obvious in flavor terms (Runekeeper/wizard) and one choice was just a concession summoner's action economy is too hard for anyone to play with except monk. There ended up being few "leftovers"
Magus: Magus looked a bit too spikey when combined with a martial, but gets magic more than everyone else if paired with a caster. In either direction, its just a little lopsided. Really considered pairing it with Inventor (cool flavor for sure) but the more I thought about how this would play, I decided best not.
Barbarian: doesn't play well with being paired with spellcasting, and doesn't fit with the flavor of the setting I am going for.
Kineticist just doesn't play well with anyone, except ironically one barbarian subclass, but I don't want to limit players to just that. An elemental warrior trope should be pretty easy to do here with Monk/Sorcerer anyway.
Exemplar: Doesn't fit with the flavor of the setting.
Inventor: Works with the setting exceptionally well, but my worry is that the class is so underwhelming thats there simply just more interesting alternatives for Int martial with int casters.
Overall, happy with my classes and excited to work on some in-universe lore for them! Let me know what yall think
