A short sci-fi story about near future modelling to identify
Hi guys, was reading news recently about Grok as a game-generated software. It reminded me a short sci-fi story I read ~35 years ago. I cannot remember its title/author.
The plot:
- A company has developed software that simulate a person’s possible future.
- The simulation is not VR or immersive. Instead, the person sits in front of a bank/array of many screens (so, it should be ~1970/1980.
- The screens continuously present different possible actions and their consequences.
- The person has to make decisions at short intervals to determine which branch of the simulated future to follow.
- The choices are like: whether/how to turn his head, what to say, or how to behave when talking to an attractive woman.
- The protagonist spends all of his savings to simulate his future.
- At some point, the protagonist gets a mundane job working for the company that operates the simulation system while get paid by using much cheaper fantasy-generated software.
