BCom grad here can't afford a Masters right now, need to start earning. Are govt exams really my best bet, or am I missing something?
Background: I'm a BCom student. Further study (Masters, etc.) just isn't financially on the table for me right now and I need to start earning sooner rather than later. So I've been looking at competitive government exams that only need a bachelor's degree things like SSC CGL, banking/insurance exams, BPSC as a way to get financial stability first and figure out longer-term plans later.
To be clear, I'm not dead set on this path it's just what's visible to me from where I'm standing a graduate with limited options and no budget for further education right now. If there's something better I haven't considered I genuinely want to hear it.
A bit of context on what I'm looking for, in case it helps tailor the advice:
- Decent salary reasonably soon after starting out, not something that takes a decade to become livable
- Actual work-life balance, not a grind
- This is meant to be a stepping stone, not necessarily my forever career
Questions I have:
-
Is this actually a sound plan for someone in my position, or is there a better route I'm not seeing?
-
If you've been through this exact stage figuring out 'what next' after a basic bachelor's with no money for further study what did you end up doing, and would you do it again?
-
For those who prepared for something like this while treating it as a stepping stone rather than a dream job did that mindset help or hurt your motivation and prep?
-
Any resources, communities, or first steps you'd point a total beginner toward?
Genuinely just trying to figure out my next 1- 2 years. Any perspective is welcome including "you're overthinking this" or "here's what I wish someone had told me."
