Noob question

Please don't roast me... I'm like 2hrs in the game.
I play on SteamDeck. Great piece of hardware, but the screen is small and it works like a controller.

Now, this raises a problem: I'm terrible at shooting. On PC I think it would be much easier, but firing at a moving target with an analog controller it's horrible.

So, perhaps melee is my thing. I'm even a Ginaz swordmaster! But melee against shooting enemies is also suicide, at least until I get a shield. Not being able to "lock in" on opponents makes melee a losing strategy against gunmen whol just walk back and shoot.

Does anyone play with controllers? How do you manage combat?
