What makes a balcony railing look good without blocking the view?

Balcony railings are one of those things that have to perform an important safety function while still fitting into the architecture.

For homes with a good view, I think visual obstruction becomes an important design consideration.

Glass can keep the view relatively open, while aluminium can provide the structural framework and a clean architectural finish.

But the details matter—post size, glass type, fixing method and overall proportions can change the appearance significantly.

Alusea's current catalogue includes an aluminium and glass balustrade system using laminated structural safety glass and minimalist aluminium posts.

Personally, I'd rather see a railing that becomes part of the architecture than one that looks like something added after construction.
