The new premiere map system forces us to play already overplayed maps
The idea that the community should play more different maps is a good idea that I support. But the implementation is majorly flawed. I queue with atleast 3 man premade so we always have the majority to choose the maps and the side we want. Before the new update we never played Dust 2 or mirage but now the amount of possible games in those maps has risen significantly. I also have seen many comments basicly saying "skill issue" and its kinda true. But we do actively play on 4 out of 7 maps and only take out dust 2 and mirage
Firstly it takes more power from players.
Before the update the maps were actually choosed but now they are randomly selected. It ain't too bad but when you choose maps A and B but would prefer B and the game chooses A it took the power of choice from you. Before you could ban the maps you DON'T want to play on in any situation, but now you are sometimes forced to play against your will. In our first game after the update we played in mirage and one of our teammates abandoned after 6 rounds. What is the point to play in a map you dont know while in dissadvantage when your going to lose eitherway. So basicly before you could atleast choose the least smelly one from the shit maps.
It also is dumb that its choosed randomly when in pro games they choose their maps. Or maybe they try to change that aswell.
Secondly it adds even more overplayed maps in some situations.
So basicly almost half of the games of premiere are played on Mirage (24.3 %) and Dust 2 (23.6 %) and as previosly stated our played games on those maps have really gone up. I do believe that it will lessen the games played on those maps in grand scale but it will also be much more common in premade lobbies who would ban those maps. There will also be even less the more niche maps played like anubis and cache as less people will pick those. I dont believe that it is intented to bury these maps even deeper in the popular maps shadow. Again here you could choose the less played map if you thought your chances were better. I also dont want to play with or against people who couldn't ban the one specific map they are shit at and will abandon basicly instantly.
Thirdly teams could have huge skill differences than before
Now the teams will most likely choose the 2 maps they are most skilled at obviosly. In a vacuum this is good. But when the other team hasn't played any games in nuke for like 5 years and it gets chosen they will get absolutely steamrolled. And yes while this is most likely fun to the winning team, it is also demoralising to the other. Now the possibility of "negotiating" or choosing a map where both teams are bad is taken away.
The conclusion
The idea behind the changes were good but the implementation could be better. I don't exactly know how, but some way where they combine the better parts of the both systems. If you could ban 2 maps instead of choosing then you could ban the ones you hate while diversifying the played maps. Yes the more played maps will stay as more played but this way the games should be more fair to both teams, even when the teams are choosing to play a couple of maps. In ideal world every map would have a 14 % playrate but after this I believe that the more common maps are played even more and the niche are played even less.
