Steal Your Stuff Paradox
Context: I want to play the deck at b2, preferably the higher end of b2
I’m having issues enjoying my [[Captain N’ghathrod]] deck. It was one of my first decks I ever bought, and I’ve been kind of iterating on it ever since I’ve gotten it. But every time I look at it, I just don’t like it. Maybe it’s because my tastes have changed - although I never remember liking it toooo much.
My issues in no particular order:
• I tend like commanders that are part of a greater engine. But if you can perform any engine with mill, it starts to look a lot like combo (which is not what I want to do)
• Often without an engine, you go down cards only to POTENTIALLY get a card that would be better on your battlefield.
• If you go towards direction of milling more cards for better options, you end up turning more into a metal deck, then steal your stuff deck.
• Horrors suck and with few exceptions are worlds more inefficient than other creatures, let alone other cards that just say will.
• The plan of spending multiple cards to mill to then steal 1 card looks incredibly inefficient, next to cards like [[Breach the Multiverse]], [[Dream Harvest]], [[Bribery]], or even your simple reanimate. So you end up in a situation where there are far better to just cast and do the thing, than redeploy your commander for 7 mana, or even for 5 mana.
• If you want to make the mills more impactful without milling more cards, then you fall into all clones or copy effects, which feels kind of uninspired.
Thus I come to the internet, is there sweet tech I’m missing?
Should I just build instant and surgery synergy and have my commander at the helm?
How do I make the deck consistent without it feeling oppressive?
Do I lean into the milling other people strategy, or do I play cards that incidentally mill everyone else while doing a self mill reanimate strategy.
How do I make this deck interesting to me?
I know it’s a bracket 2 list, and I know who these questions are more to personal preference. But I am just stuck, I’ve had the deck for 3 years now, and I’m looking for advice or even any alternate commanders that I can reuse a lot of the cards I’ve bought that doesn’t essentially say the same thing.
The decklist is not up to date but it’s close enough: https://moxfield.com/decks/Fv9hIFF8k0CrxKlOKum6Gg
