My standards are too high. How do I lower them?

Career Advice

This is not related to dating in any way. I'm thinking about work mostly.

I remember my first job. It was a community owned business and felt valuable. It taught me how to work hard and have fun while at work. Some of my best memories are there. I was there for years and moved up the ranks. I attribute my work ethic to this job. Everyone there worked hard. I think maybe you can attribute a lot of that to the small community I was raised in. Hard work is super valued in that culture.

My next job had pretty high standards, but instead of community impact, the measurement was product moved in a certain amount of time. It was fast-paced and challenging. And gawd, I loved it. But I also love math and stem things, so I went to college.

Oh dear gawd. College and my career after has shown me how misplaced my drive and ambition and passion were. Everyone is doing WAAAAAY less and succeeding. Which is crazy to me. But I think my work ethic is hurting me now. The environment has changed. People reward being social and talking about football and barely knowing what you are doing.

This like has broken my brain though. Haywire. I seriously do not know how to function in these environments. But... it also makes me sad to put aside values that I was raised with and cherish so deeply :/

How do I lower my standards? Especially without the dissociation feelings I feel from myself and the world when I think about it?
