phone photo transfers with the lexar d40e flash drive for two weeks

Flash Drives

For just over two weeks, I have used the Lexar flash drive around my basement flat to move phone photos, tablet files, and laptop backups without dragging out adapters. The model is D40E, a dual USB 3.2 Gen 1 unit in champagne silver. Pricewise it lands below similar Sandisk dual connector models but above generic plastic sticks. I tend to test storage with the same suspicion I bring to home gear, including copies back off the device.

Having USB C at one end and USB A at the other has been legit useful. My phone talks to one connector, my older laptop takes the other, and the swivel design changes ends without a loose cap. The metal housing feels sturdy at 26 g, while the whole thumb drive still fits easily in a palm or pocket. A keychain can be attached, though one connector stays exposed because there is no cover. That is an anoying problem in a linty pocket.

Lexar lists 100 megabytes per second read and 80 for write, but those are on paper figures, not promises that every folder will hold them. My ordinary photo and video transfers feel quick and stable. A published Macbook Pro 2019 test in the supplied feedback averaged only 8.37 MB/s during one write run, with 1.61 MB/s minimum and 97.54 MB/s maximum, so workload clearly matters. I have not duplicated that exact test. Lots of tiny files slow this flash drive more than one large archive, which is normal, but buyers should not read 100 as a constant result.

The 128GB capacity gives me space for current phone exports, repair PDFs, and a recovery folder. Encryption and unencrypted storage are both described by owners, though I only used plain folders because the brief provides no software name or setup detail. Across 10517 ratings it holds 4.3 stars, and 10000 were bought last month; that is meaningful scale, but I still keep a second copy. The listing also places it at number 1 in USB flash drives.

Compared with my Kingston USB stick, the Lexar saves an adapter and feels heavier. A basic Samsung thumb drive is simpler to pocket because its connector is covered, while this portable drive wins for crossing between newer and older hardware. Plugging and unplugging has not loosened the swivel yet. It clicks through its travel cleanly, and neither end has dropped connection when nudged at my desk.

One annoyance is width around crowded ports. The body is compact, yet a neighboring plug can make finger access awkward, depending on the machine. Heat has been mild during larger copies, and I saw no file corruption after copying folders back and checking them. There is no stated warranty or endurance number in the supplied data, so I cannot judge either. Yeah, a dual connector solves a real compatibility problem, but it also doubles the exposed contact area.

For owners carrying the D40E on keys, how has the uncovered connector held up against grit and repeated swivel use?
