Major career switch (law to international sourcing)?

I’m a european lawyer in my mid 30s and have spent the last few years working in government (trade policy focused) and corporate roles.

I’ve realized that I really don’t want to spend the rest of my life doing law or working my way up a corporate ladder. I hate it with passion to be completely honest.

What I’ve always wanted to do is something closer to business, international trade or sourcing. I’m quite good at connecting people, finding opportunities and figuring out how different things could fit together. Unfortunately, I chose law partly because I thought I wanted the stability and prestige. Now I’m at a point where I feel burned out and increasingly frustrated with the career path.

I’m particularly interested in renewable energy sector and healthcare. I currently work in procurement, so I feel like I could at least use some of the experience I’ve built up there.

One idea I’ve been seriously considering is quitting my job and giving myself a year to try to build something. Go to trade fairs, meet manufacturers, distributors and buyers, collect contacts, look for opportunities and see where it leads.

I feel that in order to start, I have to do at least something to move in that direction and the rest might follow once I start meeting people and such. Am I being too naive? Is there a better way or should I just stick to corporate and work another 20 years until retiremen?
