The cheapest hourly rate can turn into the most expensive move.
You get three moving quotes: $120/hour, $150/hour and $180/hour. Easy choice, right? Pick $120 and save money.
Not necessarily! The hourly rate tells you surprisingly little by itself. One quote might include three movers while another includes two. One might include the truck and basic materials, while another adds separate charges. There can also be minimum hours, travel time, stairs, long-carry fees or other conditions that completely change the final number.
And then there’s speed. A cheaper crew that needs six hours can cost more than a more efficient crew that finishes the same move in four. That’s why comparing moving quotes by hourly rate alone is a little like comparing flights by ticket price without checking the baggage fees.
At Dumbo Moving & Storage, we think the useful question isn’t simply, “What’s your hourly rate?” It’s: “What exactly is included, what could change the price, and what should I realistically expect to pay for my move?”
Get those answers from every company you’re considering, then compare.
A cheap number at the top of a quote means very little if you don’t know what can appear underneath it.
