In the Axis as a Communist?

Hey, I had a really weird game that I played recently. I was Argentina, pushed hard to become Communist, and decided to systematically “liberate“ South America from the bourgeoise. Made some diplomatic inroads with the Comintern, but really I wanted to tote my own ”Argentina Muy Grande” faction.

Anyway, at some point in taking Northern South America, one of the countries that I was invading joined the Allies suddenly, and I found myself being targeted by America and GB and France and the Netherlands. Stalin basically told me that I was on my own, but suddenly Hitler and Mussolini warmed towards me sharply, and I was oddly able to join the Axis faction despite being very communist. I did it out of desperation, and they helped out a bit. Except for my buddy Venezuela, I took all of South America, and a good chunk of Central America including the Panama Canal, which I blew up to troll America.

Fast forward to 1947. I’m the most significant member of the faction remaining. I am leader of the Axis, despite being communist the whole time. I’m being navally invaded from all sides and have lost control of the seas as my modest navy was eaten alive by British doomstack fleets. Has anything like this happened to anyone else?
