Will i be in trouble for attempting to cut off a clamp but still paid?

I got clamped the other day and fella came along and said he’d cut the chain off as he has done many times. It was a private company so he said it would be ok to cut the chain as long as there was no damage to the clamp. Another passer by claimed he has also cut many off and it was ok so i told him to cut it. He cut the chain however there was another lock that he could not get to on the inside of the wheel so said i would have to pay. So i paid and the guy that came to remove it said nothing about the cut chain but i am worried that I will now be in trouble for the cut chain. I am I being stupid.
