Psychometric testing - what is the deal?
Just what hope is there for me?
I have never passed a psychometric test for any job ever. The problem is that I’m in tech/engineering and everyone sends them. A smart neurotypical student can usually pass the with a week or two of prep beforehand.
However due to ADHD/Autism, I have TERRIBLE working memory but I can deep focus and solve problems intensely over hours and days even weeks and months sometimes. I was able to get a MSc in AI from a top university which covered lots of advanced math but for the life of me I cannot pass or do these timed 10 min puzzle tests because my brains working memory takes time (I almost need everything in mid level memory)
I coded my own app and it got 3,500+ customers and made me a lot of money so I am clearly quite talented at creating products people pay for.
However those stupid timed puzzle questions where you have to figure out who is the brother of who in a family tree. Worst part is they aren’t even IQ test because you can literally study them and improve your score but for me I need 10x the time as anyone else.
I ask for an adjustment due to my disability and then they go silent.
Just so infuriating. I get that standards exist and they want the top candidates especially when they are paying top salaries >£100k+ but it’s so annoying when my actual engineering ability and product skill and technical skill isn’t reflected in those 10minutes.
