1. Franey Trail: A steep climb through forest rewards you with panoramic views of the Clyburn River canyon and Atlantic Ocean. Plan ahead - this hike is busiest between 11 am and 4 pm.

2. Broad Cove Mountain  
A short but steep climb through the forest leads to sweeping views of the coast. Adam Hill Photo

3. Aspy Trail  
Follow the Aspy fault through hardwood and mixed forest to panoramic views of the escarpment, with waterfalls along the way. Waterproof hiking boots recommended for crossing streams.

4. Mica Hill  
A gradual climb through Acadian and boreal forest leads to panoramic views from the highlands plateau.

5. Skyline Trail  
Walk out along a dramatic headland to a view of the Cabot Trail and the coast, where you might spot whales, eagles, or even a moose. Parking reservations are a must between June 26 - Oct 25.

6. Acadian Trail  
Climb above the Chéticamp River for panoramic views of the river canyon, highlands and Gulf of St. Lawrence.

7. Beulach Ban Falls  
At 21 metres high, Beulach Ban is one of the park’s most popular waterfalls, and just a two-minute walk from the Aspy trailhead.

8. Salmon Pools  
Follow the Chéticamp River through a forested valley, with salmon pools, rapids and plenty of opportunities for birdwatching along the way.

9. Freshwater Lake  
Starting next to the ocean, this short, level trail follows the shoreline of a small lake that was once an ocean bay. A side trail (1.6 km return) follows the cobble barrier beach which separates the lake from the Atlantic Ocean. This trail is one of two accessible trails in the Cape Breton Highlands. The other is Bog Trail.
