UTC vs local — how do you set Stripe payout windows against QBO?

Discussion

Curious how other accountants / bookkeepers handle Stripe day-boundary skew when books are local-time.

What I keep seeing:

  1. Stripe Balance / CSV timestamps are often UTC; QBO company settings are usually local — a late-evening charge looks like “tomorrow.”
  2. A single payout’s composition can span two calendar days in the books even though Stripe treats it as one settlement window.
  3. Matching by charge created date instead of payout / available_on creates phantom mismatches that aren’t real money gaps.

When you close month-end, what’s your checklist for UTC vs local? Do you group everything by payout id (or available_on), force a reporting timezone, or something else?

Not looking for software recs — genuine process tips welcome. (Different question from clearing-that-never-zeros — this is specifically the clock / window problem.)
