Can I get renters insurance on my mother's house if the house has not yet changed into my name

Home Insurance

I've been trying to maintain my mother's home policy after she passed away a couple months ago. the grief process is taking longer than expected and I had not done my diligence work in getting the home transferred into my name. I believe her homeowners policy has canceled as when I tried to call they will not answer my questions to that affect so i fear the insurance has lapsed. I had been trying to pay on it but it lapsed by a couple of weeks and when I tried to go back in and pay it that's when the questions came up.

Until I'm able to get my mother's house in my name which may take a few weeks due to my work schedule, can I get a renters policy while I'm here. I have a renters policy for my permanent place of residency but due to the fact that I may be at my mothers home for the next few months is it possible to get a renters policy on this home as well until I get things changed into my name and can get a homeowner's policy instead.

Is there anything I need to be aware of when calling the insurance company where I have my present renters policy. Will it look suspicious if I try to get a second renter's policy and how do I keep everything above board and should I get a larger amount than I normally would on the policy since the actual insurance on the house may have lapsed or will they consider that before they issue me a renter's policy on my mothers house.

I have so many questions if anyone can just give me some considerations .
