Am I Too Late?
Is the worship of Santa Muerte a closed practice?
My grandmother’s family came from Mexico and had their culture and history beaten and engineered out of them. After only 2 generations they had given up Spanish speaking, tradition, and practice, buying into more Eurocentric religious views and culture. I have been far removed from my heritage, yet I still strongly identify with Latino culture and tradition. But I’m out of touch. I don’t want to intrude where I don’t belong and many would say I don’t, because of my family history (mayonnaise white on my mom’s side).
Is it too late to try to reconnect with practices I am unfamiliar with yet lie within my family?
I was gifted a tarot deck with heavy connections to Santa Muerte and I haven’t been the kindest to it. But now, I feel reverent. I feel her commanding my respect through it. But I don’t want to be wrong or continue being disrespectful. If it’s too late for me, I will cleanse the deck and gift it to one more deserving. If it’s not, I would appreciate a recommendation for a place to start, any books or resources. If you have any questions, please let me know.
Thank you.
