Parents of teens, best school advice to give teens?

In 3 sentences or 30 words max - what would you say to a teenager to help them perform better at school?

A certain teen in 11th grade has 2 C’s a D in Spanish(?). She wants to apply to universities and currently taking a few AP classes. We just got her started in tutoring 4 days a week.

But I lectured too hard now she tuned me out. I went over time management, getting organized and avoiding distractions but she still didn’t implement any of those things. I gave her some space so ready to go back to talking to her, but this time I want to advise her more strategically. What worked for you?
