Did I miss a detail, or are there versions of how Essex finds and recruits (sorry saves) Wolverine in the game?

The first one being when he finds him in the forest in the first seconds of the game, shabby and scrawny-looking (but still cute AH) and the second time is later in the game when he mind-rapes him and snaps his memories away, so that in his confusion, Logan is manipulated by Essex into joining his X team.
Little lost.
