Hi. My partner and I moved into a new flat. We could not view it because we lived far away, so the agency suggested a video tour. From that video we could see that the paint was not great in one of the rooms, but looked fine otherwise. When asked, the agent said he believes it needs painting, but the landlord refuses to invest any money as they spent a lot removing mould once. The landlord also said they will provide us with a dehumidifier which they want us to keep on at all times to prevent mould from forming.

We got the keys and noticed the flat was in a really bad state. A strong smell of mould, mould in around windows and behind pipes. Walls are very dirty with grime, furniture marks and what not. A lot of walls have cracks, paint is chipping away. The carpets are dirty, the washing machine was left closed and now smelling like it's mouldy. Window hinges are broken and wind is coming through doors and windows. And there was no air dehumidifier as promised by the landlord. The state of the apartment is honestly deplorable and makes me sick thinking I'm paying so much money to live in such a mess.

We want to move out asap, but we don't feel like we should pay for 2 months of rent (our notice period) as the apartment was misrepresented to us and feel like we were taken advantage of because we could not view the apartment before. (We live 5 hours away by car, and our cars were both broken at the time, amazing timing). We have already started looking for new apartments.

What can we do in this situation? Has anyone been in the same situation?

Any bit of advice is much appreciated
