Very happy with my frame coming from a quest 2
I got my frame in the mail yesterday and the ergonomics pack today, here's a review.
Let's start with passthrough. I've seen some people online mentioning that it would be worse than even quest 2 passthrough, but I completely disagree. It's about the best passthrough you can get for black and white cameras in my opinion. Yoy get very little warping and the blue tint is very nice. You won't be able to see your screens through it, but it works very nicely for moving around and grabbing things.
Moving onto comfort, this headset is very comfortable. When I first tried it without the ergonomics attachment it was already pretty good, also didn't have much movement when moving your head. The one thing I did notice is that the default light blocker felt almost a little bit sharp on my nose personally. Though that did get mostly solved once I used the spacer. I personally do also enjoy using the spacer, even without the glasses because it would sit too close to my head otherwise. I was able to feel my eyelashes touch the lense. The spacer is also incredibly easy to attach. On a quest 2 you have to take off the cushion with those clips, which I always had a bit of trouble with for some reason. But the magnets on this thing are really easy and align themselves very well. Aslo don't be concerned, I haven't noticed it moving at all while playing despite how easy it is to take off. The face cushion does absorb a lot of sweat after playing games like beat saber, so I'm going to be looking into some third party ones once they come out.
The controllers are also pretty interesting. I still have to get used to them but I do like them. The faces are a lot bigger than that on the quest 2, especially the thumbstucks. The thumbstucks are quite a bit taller than what I was used to, but it probably won't take too long to adjust. The grip has an extra button once you squeeze far enough, this is something that is used for example in hl alux to crush cans. I also tried the ergonomics kit attachment and it's very easy to put on and fits pretty nicely. I never had an attachment like this for my quest, so it's something that I still have to get used to. The yrackinf also works perfectly, even without the ring, no need to worry about that. Overall they feel very nice and pretty good quality.
Battery life is alright, nothing too special, however that is me talking after being used to using the quest 2 wired, so it would drain a lot slower. I probably got 1-2 hours playtime while streaming, and I would've liked about and hour more. However, it has served me perfectly well and you can always plug in while sitting down.
Streaming also worked surprisingly well, I was able to play beat saber and barely noticed any delay. The foviated streaming was also impossible to notice(good thing). The software experience is also pretty nice and not too confusing. In the headset there are some very simple steps to setup the device, athough those steps don't go through space setup for some reason, so keep that in mind for your first time. When you click on a game you can choose to either play it on the device itself or to stream it. You can also go into streamed mode in general, useful for accessing your desktop for instances (this option is a little hidden, in the streaming status there is an advanced options button, after clicking that a button to stream without game is available there). Yoy see both ui's (local and streamed) in the same menu, so keep the streaming icon in mind.
The UI is basically the same as the steamer hi that you are used to. It feels very snappy and is easy to use and I like it a lot more than the new UI on the quest.
I had a few issues when setting up the dongle for the first time, however after restarting my computer and headset it fixed itself. There was also some other weird streaming issue, but restarting steam on my computer fixed that. Overall very easy and once I get everything dialed in it will be more quick than what I have had now.
One weird thing is that the UI lasers get toggled off when you click the second stage of the grip, this is kind of annoying. There is probably a setting to change it but I haven't had the chance to look for it yet.
The visuals are very nice, it looks quite a lot better and the added fov is right about what I wanted out of the headset. The audio is alright, nothing of note. I might slightly prefer the quest 2's audio, but the difference wasn't very big for me.
All in all I am very happy with this headset and has met all the expectations that I had for it. :D
