Pet-safe zombie technique?

Hi, I am trying to build some terrariums suitable for reptiles, tarantulas, etc. for Halloween.

For gore, rot, blood, etc effects, I'm worried that liquid latex and cotton might not hold up to being used as a habitat. Does anyone know any techniques and materials that end up with a durable result? Thanks!
