Yoonchae is Average-Looking.

Unpopular opinion, I know. But this has been on my chest for a long while, and I finally feel brave enough to say it. I don’t like saying things like this because I don’t like dragging women’s physical appearances, and also because I kept trying to deny this opinion to myself, but I can no longer lie to myself about this issue. I don’t find Yoonchae that pretty. I find her to be average-looking. I am not saying that she is ugly by any means. Obviously she wouldn’t have been chosen for the program if she was ugly, and objectively she conforms to the Korean beauty standards. But from a personal standpoint, she is very basic-looking, and nothing about her stands out. She’s not particularly eye-catching or captivating or breathtakingly gorgeous like the other girls, she’s honestly just there. There’s nothing unique, special, or intriguing about her that makes you look twice at her. She’s just nothing. Bland. Like white wonder bread. When I see pictures of her, I am not blown away, in awe, or in admiration. I just feel nothing. She just looks like your average Korean girl.

Now obviously I used to find her pretty back when I was an eyekon, but after becoming a snarker, I started finding her basic, plain, and boring to look at, but lied to myself that I found her pretty because I thought that I had to for some reason(partially because she is an idol, and partially because she is a girl and I don’t like insulting girls’ appearances, like I said earlier). But after a long time, I finally got tired of forcing myself to find Yoonchae beautiful. I do not. She is easily the least pretty member out of all the Katseye girls. Manon and Megan are number one. I’m not saying that she’s average-looking because she’s Korean. There are plenty of gorgeous Korean women in the kpop industry: Yunah from Illit, Nayeon from Twice, Wonyoung from IVE, the list goes on and on and on. It’s also not that I don’t like soft/cute/innocent features. Quite the opposite, I actually prefer those features to sharper ones(which is why I mourn the gratuitous baddiefication of Sophia, Megan, Manon, and Daniela). But Yoonchae just does nothing for me. I don’t find her cute, pretty, or beautiful in any way. I just find her average-looking, forgettable, and unremarkable. Not gonna lie, I have seen regular non-famous girls walking down the street who are far more beautiful than her. I think that the only reason people find her attractive is because she is the youngest member of the group, and therefore gets pigeonholed in the “cute” role(she is not), and because of fetishization of East Asian women(who are normally considered inherently cute, pretty, and feminine in the eyes of American society). But of course, people are entitled to their own opinions. 🤷🏿‍♀️

I feel guilty for even writing this, and I know that I will probably be downvoted and made fun of and called ugly for this post, but I don’t care. I need to speak my truth. I recognize the fact that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and that everyone is beautiful to someone, and that beauty is subjective. If you find Yoonchae beautiful, then please, by all means, continue to feel that way! I’m not stopping you! I just won’t be joining you.
