Just started as a GET at a large MNC — what should my career path look like?
I’m 22, a Mechanical Engineering graduate, and I’ve recently joined one of the largest MNCs in the automotive/manufacturing sector as a Graduate Engineer Trainee (GET).
Since I’m just starting out, I’m not really sure what direction I should take with my career.
Should I stay in the core engineering/manufacturing field and build my career around it, or should I eventually move into something else?
If moving out of the core field is a better option, what fields would you recommend and how should I make that transition? Would it be management, supply chain, consulting, finance, technology, or something completely different?
I’m not looking for a quick switch. I want to understand what people who have been in the industry would consider a good long-term career path from my position.
If you were 22, starting as a GET at a large MNC, what path would you choose for yourself?
