My Honest SideShift Review After Being on the Platform for Several Months

UGC Newbies 🥳

*this is from a burner account*

I’ve been using SideShift for several months now, and I think there are some things creators should know before relying on it heavily for income.

The pros:
When I first joined, there were genuinely good brands and campaigns on the platform. A lot of the companies were legitimate, and some campaigns paid very well compared to what you typically see in UGC. I’ve personally gotten valuable experience, made money, and worked with brands I probably wouldn’t have connected with otherwise.

SideShift can be a great way to get your first UGC experience, build your portfolio, and learn how brand campaigns work.

But there are some major cons:

One of the biggest changes I’ve noticed is that access to some of the better opportunities can feel increasingly tied to having a paid account. That can be frustrating when you’re already creating content and trying to make the platform profitable.

Another issue is pay consistency. The companies may be legitimate, but brands can be extremely fickle. You can put significant time into a campaign and still end up making very little for the amount of work involved. Some opportunities look good on paper but don't necessarily translate into good hourly pay once you account for filming, editing, revisions, posting, and waiting for payment.

There’s also a noticeable lack of traditional business structure when it comes to creator support.

If you're expecting SideShift to function like a company with a traditional HR or creator-relations department that steps in when there’s a dispute, that's not really what I've experienced. When issues happen between creators and brands or even with internal SideShift processes...there doesn't always appear to be a clear escalation process where creators can communicate directly with someone and fully understand what is happening.

as a creator who depends on this income, decisions can be made regarding a campaign or creator without the creator receiving much direct communication beforehand. meaning you will get dropped with no reason or explanation. Granted this happens in our line of work but they do it often.

I would not treat SideShift as a platform that is currently structured enough to replace your full-time job.

It’s a relatively young company/platform, and you can see that it's still figuring out parts of its business structure, creator support, payment processes, and campaign management. My concern is that creators can sometimes end up being part of that learning curve. Whether that's dealing with missed opportunities, confusing communication, campaign changes, or payment issues.

That doesn't mean SideShift is a bad platform. I actually think it has a lot of potential.

For someone who is new to UGC, I think SideShift can be a useful place to start. You can find legitimate brands, gain experience, build your portfolio, and learn how the creator economy works.

But once you've gained experience and understand your value as a creator, I would recommend expanding beyond the platform rather than depending on it entirely.

Use it as one source of opportunities and not your entire business.

My overall experience: good for getting started, good for short-term opportunities, but I wouldn't build my entire income around it right now.

The platform has potential. It just still has a lot of growing to do.
