State vs Private
I have been applying for analyst positions within the state for the last two years, and have finally received a tentative offer just about a month ago. When I was first began applying, the state seemed to be a pretty great place to work, offering some remote work, alternative schedules, flexibility, and strong benefits. However, it seems as all these perks have slowly started disappearing since then, and based on this subreddit the general sentiment of state workers seem to be at a very low place. I recently received another offer from a private company for essentially the same duties, a 18% increase on the salary, and a strong remote/hybrid culture that seems unlikely to change in the future. At this time, do you think the safety and stability of the state is worth giving up a larger salary/bonus? Or does working for a private company make more sense?
