I don't know what to expect anymore.
On August the 13th, we were told that my 54 year old special needs sister, who is in kidney failure, had "2 weeks to 2 months" left based on her lab work drawn on August 6th.
Hospice was started and they have been wonderful. Sunday, I thought she was starting to fade, she slept 20 hours straight, wouldn't eat, wouldn't drink, and her awake windows were brief. Then Thursday and today she's been awake, alert, eating and drinking everything in sight, not sleeping and in fact she was up at dawn waking everyone up.
We don't know if this is normal or not. We've heard of "the rally" but this seems different. It's like she was never sick. This is breaking my heart because it's giving my elderly parents false hope that she's recovering. And because she's special needs, she can't relay to us what she's feeling. I want her to be with us as long as possible, please don't misunderstand me. But the ups and downs of this is so hard.
Is this typical? I've been incredibly lucky so far that I've never had a loved one on hospice care.
