Adirondacks

So I live up in the Adirondacks in upstate NY and with all the lakes and ponds everywhere I’m surprised I don’t see more packrafts. Everyone seems to have light weight pack canoes. I’d think packing a raft into a pond would be way easier. My question is are packrafts more for streams and rivers and is that why I hardly seen them up here? Is it because the canoe tracks better? If not could someone recommend a good style that would adapt to backcountry ponds and lakes? Thanks in advance!
