APM or Asst. Superintendent??
Currently trying to finalize my decision between 2 different job offers I received last week with very different career paths/responsibilities within the construction industry.
Having a particularly hard time due to personal reasons regarding possibly having to leave my 3/12 year old golden retriever behind with family for a undetermined period of time while I’d get settled in/if they are willing to help care for her.
Job 1: Assistant Project Manager
Salary: 95k (paid weekly)
Bonus: 5-10%
PTO+Holidays: 24 days
Location: PA/Philly Area
Expenses: Rent/Food/Utilities/Gas
Hours: Approx: 6:30/7am - 4:30pm?
Job 2: Travel Assistant Superintendent
Salary: 110k (biweekly)
Bonus: 5-10%
Travel Position Bonus: 5%
PTO+Holidays: 33days
Location: Indiana
Monthly Living Per Diem: $3,200
Monthly Travel Allowance: $800
Company Truck/Gas Card
Expenses: Personal Vehicle/Phone/Food?
Hours: 6am-5pm + commute time
Both job would likely have around a 30 minute commute time added on both ways. Job one would be pursuing a Project Manager career path within the Health Care Division for a General Contractor & job 2 would be pursuing a Superintendent career path.
The potential of earning $115-120k with nearly no expense working 11-12 hour days sounds enticing however I can’t leave my dog alone that long everyday and don’t know if my family will help watch her till I could get situated and possibly look into paying someone to let her out every day while away. Job 1 is still great money with great potential to get out of the field working on more the management side of things but utilmately has more expenses that would bring possibly earnings down to 75k after utilities/expenses for the year compared to job 2 just feels like I’m losing out on a substantial amount of money because of having a dog who I love dearly.
Job 2 needs an answer by the end of today,
What would you do?
