AI and patent law
I know this question is asked a lot in this sub, but I wanted to ask it from a different perspective. I feel mostly(I could be wrong) these are asked from the pov of someone looking in, meaning they are not in the field asking whether it is worth getting into. I wanted to ask it from the pov of someone already in it.
As a fairly new patent agent, I feel AI has not yet lived up to expectations, as I feel a lot of the time it helps with medial tasks like first drafts or understanding a prior art reference. However I do understand that it can only get better, and will definitely eat away from billable hours which is disastrous to the profession money model.
But I wanted to ask, maybe to some more senior people, if they believe being in is an advantage enough to stay. Obviously the bigger scare is that AI will make entry level roles scarce and the pipeline gets harder, but say as someone already in an entry level role, would you be fine or would it be better to leave while you can to build skills that are more defensible to disruption.
