AITA for waiting two weeks to tell my husband I suspected his brother was staging our dog's "escapes" for his prank channel?
(Throwaway.)
I (43F) have a rescue dog, Biscuit, who's normally great about staying in our fenced yard. Over the last two months he "escaped" four times, twice we found him wandering the street, once a neighbor brought him back, once he just showed up soaking wet with no idea where he'd been. We checked the fence for gaps, patched two small ones, and it kept happening anyway.
I started to think Biscuit was somehow figuring out the latch himself, so I bought a cheap little clip-on camera for his collar, mostly out of curiosity, to see what he actually did once he got out.
Turns out my brother-in-law, who visits a lot and has a small prank/reaction channel, had been quietly opening the side gate and calling Biscuit over with treats whenever he came by. then filming himself "finding" our "escaped" dog around the neighborhood for content. He never told us. A friend of his, who's also friendly with us, forwarded us an unlisted video he'd shared in a group chat bragging about the "bit," clearly not realizing we had no idea what was going on.
Here's the part I'm less sure about. Once I had a strong hunch it was him, I didn't tell my husband right away. I sat on it for almost two weeks, quietly keeping the collar camera running and gathering a few more clips, because accusing his own brother of something like this felt huge and I wanted to be completely sure before saying anything.
When I finally showed my husband everything at once, he wasn't just stunned about his brother, he was upset with me too. He kept asking why I didn't tell him the moment I suspected something. He said he felt like I'd been keeping something serious from him in our own house for two weeks, and that it wasn't my call to make alone even if I was trying to be careful. He called his brother that night and it did not go well, brother is now saying we're overreacting and that it was "harmless content" and that installing a camera on our own dog is "next level paranoid and controlling."
Now my husband and I are in this weird spot where he's not really mad about the dog thing anymore, he's mad about the two weeks. I keep explaining I didn't want to blow up his relationship with his brother over a hunch, but he says that wasn't my decision to make solo.
AITA for waiting two weeks to tell my husband instead of bringing it to him the moment I had a hunch, even though it turned out I was right?
